"Who We Are"

In 1998, the Queens Borough Public Library opened in Flushing, N.Y., a densely populated Asian community. The Flushing library - a three-story, 77,000 square-foot facility - is expected to become one of the busiest libraries in the United States. The $32 million library serves more than 1 million visitors a year and has a circulation of 1.5 million books per year.

Among its much-applauded features is an "Asian Center," which provides an extensive collection of Asian literature and other materials, as well as services suited to the needs of the Asian community. Asians from throughout the area are frequent users of the Flushing library because of the many services it provides.
