"Who We Are"

The success and popularity of the Flushing Library is proof that libraries in New Jersey's Asian population centers can provide better services. Built in the heart of the Asian community, and complete with an extensive Asian collection, the Flushing facility is both convenient and attractive. Several Asian community centers built throughout New Jersey is further proof of the state's potential to improve library opportunities for Asians.

Statistics show that when more funds are available to public libraries, both attendance and circulation increase(Chart 11). If New Jersey libraries dedicated more funds to enhancing information and services geared toward the Asian community, they would draw more Asians visitors.

In order for this to happen, the state must begin to funnel more money into the public library system. Unless this happens, inadequate funding will remain the biggest obstacle to improving library opportunities in New Jersey - and Asians will continue to lag behind.
